Global Conservation Status:  Eastern Hog-nosed Snakes are listed as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List. Their NatureServe Global Conservation Status Rank is G5 (Secure).

Federal Conservation Status:  None

Louisiana Conservation Status:  Eastern Hog-nosed Snakes have a ranking of S3 (rare and local throughout the state – 21-100 known extant populations) in Louisiana.

Author's Remarks: I have only observed this species once in Louisiana, and it was a jet black adult on the road in Kisatchie National Forest (Natchitoches Parish) back in 2002. Unfortunately I did not get any pictures of that individual.
